About Edmond

Edmond was born on the 15th of August of 1982 in Limassol, Cyprus. He has 2 siblings, Louis Hawila and Mireille Hawila.

His father Najib Hawila is one of the 7 children of Edmond and Marie Hawila, Lebanese nationals who relocated to Cyprus in 1980 after their offices were moved there. Many businesses and individuals fled Lebanon at that time due to the Civil War that was taking place.

Edmond’s Lebanese grandparents, Edmond (who he was named after) and Marie Hawila, stayed in Lebanon.

His mother Skevi Hawila is one of the 4 daughters of Loizos aka Loufkias and Maroulla Hadjigiorki, originally from Flamoudi, Famagusta. They were forced to move to Limassol as refugees due to the 1974 Turkish invasion.

As a couple with 3 children trying to establish a life without any resources due to the difficult circumstances, Edmond’s parents had to move to wherever there was work and support. Throughout this journey, they had to move several times; from a short lived stay in Lebanon, which was hindered by the situation there, to returning to Larnaka and later Limassol, where they eventually settled.

Edmond completed his primary and elementary education at St. Mary’s School in Limassol until 1994, when he began high school at Kalogeropoulio Gymnasium in Mesa Geitonia Limassol. In 1997 he went on to study at the B’ Technical School of Limassol in the field of Computing.

As a member of the Lebanese Maronite community in Cyprus, Edmond was exempt from the 26 month obligatory Cyprus National Guard service. However, as a member of a family of refugees from the 1974 Turkish invasion to Cyprus, he strongly felt that he wanted to contribute to the country and pay respect to his grandparents and all refugees. That is why he decided to voluntarily join and serve at the National Guard. He was assigned to the Andreas Papandreou AirForce base in Pafos where he served for 9 months before being released.

In 2001 he started his career in Information Technology as a junior technician and worked his way up to now being part of the management team of a multinational IT service provider.
