Edmond has been a volunteer member of the Cyprus Green Party for over 10 years. His initial decision to become involved with this party was guided by their organization of activities with a practical and measurable impact on the local community. In short, he wanted to practically help in improving the day to day life of his community and the country as a whole. This is also the major reason behind his candidacy at the Parliamentary Elections, as such a position would give him a powerful voice to represent the local community and defend our planet and society in a highly impactful way.

Currently, he is a member of the Politics Committee of the party, which constitutes its main decision-making institution, while also being the second-in-command for the beautiful city of Limassol as General Secretary. As part of his responsibilities, he regularly attends events organized by the party as well as other meetings related to either tackling environmental issues or increasing community engagement. These include and vary between activist events and protests, meetings with mayors and local organisations and public consultations such as SUD planning(Sustainable Urban Development). He attends these regularly to stay informed about the progress and long-term strategies, as well as to influence local executives towards more sustainable and ecological decisions. In fact, he has always been extremely keen on furthering his education on environmental, social, legal and financial issues as a way to more efficiently participate as both a valuable party member and active citizen.

He has also proudly participated in a number of protests and marches regarding littering, environmental consciousness and preventing large corporations from appropriating public goods such as beaches, forests and other natural reserves. Apart from this, he has implemented his moral beliefs in his personal life, by eliminating his use of single-use plastic as much as possible, reducing his carbon footprint through the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, becoming vegan in 2019 and seeking to inform others about the meat industry’s huge impact on the body and the planet. To serve the purpose of furthering education, he organized a “Mind Maps” event back in 2013, which he brought as an idea to the Young Cyprus Greens, combining his passion for environmental protection and strong beliefs about personal development. The same motivation led him to participate in a 3-day seminar in 2020 discussing the nature of fossil fuels and the implications of the East Med natural gas pipeline which is a particularly salient issue today.

As mentioned above, Edmond’s goal in becoming politically involved was to effect change in his community and become a living embodiment of his morals. Thus, as part of his affiliation with the Cyprus Green Party he has participated in a number of beach cleanings, tree planting events as well as protests and activism all around Cyprus multiple times a year. He even attended such events when he was in the UK, as he was also registered with the UK Green Party. Some of these were even organized in collaboration with international organizations like Legambiente, dedicated to protecting the earth’s natural resources. These activities were thus partially symbolic but also demonstrate the power of collectivity and the individual’s role within it.

To this day, Edmond seeks to mobilize his community, inform others through the available resources and promote behaviours and policies which protect our society and our eternal home, Earth. Being elected as a Parliament Member would undoubtedly facilitate bringing him closer to his goals since it will allow critical issues regarding society, economy and the environment to be brought to light, represented and lobbied in a very impactful way. This is undoubtedly a major priority in the political arena, as without a healthy, united and sustainable mindset our community and our planet would suffer in a way that would render any other approach to policy-making void and meaningless.
